Project Description:
Folsom Dam is located on the American River approximately 20 miles northeast of Sacramento, California. The dam is a concrete gravity structure 340 ft high, and it impounds a reservoir of a little more than one million acre-ft.

As a result of legislation approved in 1999, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers secured funding to begin studies and designs that include an enlargement of the outlets at Folsom Dam. The main objective of the enlargement was to construct facilities that would be capable of releasing 115,000 cfs at reservoir elevation 418.0 ft (spillway crest elevation).

WRECO collaborated with the St. Anthony Falls Hydraulic Laboratory and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis for this project. The laboratory conducted a portion of the physical modeling for the auxiliary spillway under consideration for Folsom Dam.

As part of a separate contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District, WRECO was selected to provide artistic renderings for the Folsom Dam Joint Federal Project in 2010. For the project, WRECO prepared several photo-realistic computer generated rendering drawings for distribution to project stakeholders for widespread use. The project objective was achieved by illustrating an accurate depiction of the Folsom Dam project site in various views.
