State Route 17 in Santa Clara County
Client:
Caltrans District 4
Project Description:
WRECO worked with Caltrans District 4 on the State Route 17 Wet Pavement Correction Project, which proposed to improve surface drainage systems in order to eliminate wet pavement conditions, improving traffic safety. The proposed improvements included adding new drainage pipes and inlets, new slotted drain, rehabilitation or replacement of existing (old) cross culverts.

The culvert rehabilitation portion of the project investigated 36 cross culverts and their associated facilities, including longitudinal culverts, inlets and risers, on State Route 17 in Santa Clara County. A total of 47 culverts, 38 inlets, and 8 risers were inspected by video camera and on-site visual assessment.

The closed circuit television (CCTV) inspections allowed WRECO to develop various culvert rehabilitation strategies, depending on size, condition, depth and accessibility. The proposed rehab techniques included in-situ lining, fused PVC pipe lining, rib-loc lining, and jack-and-bore replacement, as well as in-pipe repairs and grouting.

Key Tasks:
